This selection of work, created over the past two years, explores themes of Relationships, Nostalgia, Loss, & Hope. This show is made of explicitly defined, clear-cut shapes, reminiscent of building blocks or puzzle pieces, that come together to form the whole. Each piece being the sum of its parts. Through the ebb and flow of shape and color, I hope to find celebration and reflection in the infinite beauty of existence and its relentless absurdity. In the so-called shadow of the ever-nearing end.
The title of this show comes from Kurt Vonnegut’s novel Slaughterhouse-Five. The passage below, from the novel’s second chapter, illustrates its origins. I find hope here- A call to remember the good times and to live a life in search of more.
“When a Tralfamadorian sees a corpse, all he thinks is that the dead person is in bad condition in that particular moment, but that the same person is just fine in plenty of other moments. Now, when I myself hear that somebody is dead, I simply shrug and say what the Tralfamadorians say about dead people, which is ‘So it goes.’”
This show is for my grandmothers. For my memories of them. May they rest in peace. So it goes.
